Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
In yesteryear if you wanted to promote your business one of the things that you might have done was to have a brochure designed and printed and then delivered by hand as letterbox drops or by mail or, maybe, even leave them on the counters of local shops or perhaps local businesses which complimented yours.
A third thing might be to put a bunch of brochures on a table in your reception area. If you were operating a home business this was not an option.
The thing that you would not do was put them in a cupboard in your office and hand them out as and when the opportunity arose.
Not optimising your website is the same as putting the brochures in a cupboard and that, in search engine terms, is having your site appear on anything after page one of a search result.
Search engine optimisation is the process of improving your site to increase its visibility, always aiming for page one, when people search for products or services related to your business. The nearer you are to page one in search results, and especially the first five positions on page one, the more likely you are to gain attention and attract prospective customers to your business.
The way to get to page one in search returns is to optimise your website.
